Matariki 2004 Chardonnay

Wine Note

72% Gimblett Gravels , 28% Tuki Tuki. This wine shows complex aromas of lime, grapefruit and white-flesh stonefruit with hints of sweet toasted biscuit.A luscious mouthfeel comes from weekly lees stirring and further maturation in 44% new French oak barriques for 10 months. A succulent finely structured Chardonnay, the perfect match with roast monkfish topped with bacon and roast lemons, or try with grilled salmon. 
For sale throughout NZ but not in the cellar door.

Vinification

Hand picked batches were whole bunch pressed and lightly settled. The juice was fermented in new and 1-2 year old fine grain French barrels from a variety of high quality coopers. The wine underwent malolactic in barrel with 30% of the wine innoculated. Each barrel was lees stirred weekly for 8 months, aging in barrel for a total of 10 months before bottling.
