Wine Notes

Matariki 1998 Sauvignon Blanc

Alcohol Content

Harvest

The grapes were hand picked from our Gimblett Road Vineyard. The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness.

Vinification

The grapes were whole bunched pressed. The juice was settled and racked to vessels for fermentation. The majority of the blend was fermented in tank while the balance was fermented in oak barrels, mostly French. After fermentation the wine was left on lees for a few months, after which the wine was racked, blended, fined and stabilised for bottling.

Composition

The wine is 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon.

Bottling

The wine was bottled in December 1998.

Sensory

Colour: Light to pale straw with green hue and brilliant clarity.
Aroma: Tropical fruit with a faint herbal complexity. Subtle oak.
Palate: A weighty wine displaying attractive barrel ferment characters, lively passionfruit flavours and crisp dry finish.

Cellaring

3 to 5 years.
